We are pleased to announce that Dr. Kim Ristolainen has been appointed Assistant Professor of Finance (tenure-track) in the Department of Accounting and Finance at Turku School of Economics (TSE), effective from the beginning of 2026. He received his Doctor of Social Sciences degree in Economics from the University of Turku in 2017 and was awarded the title of Docent in Financial Economics in 2024 by the Turku School of Economics. Previously, Dr. Ristolainen has served as a visiting researcher at the Bank of Finland’s Research Unit and at the Department of Economics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

Dr. Ristolainen earned his Doctor of Social Sciences in Economics from the University of Turku in 2017 and was awarded the title of Docent in Financial Economics by TSE in 2024. He has held visiting researcher positions at the Bank of Finland’s Research Unit and at the Department of Economics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
His research sits at the crossroads of finance, behavioral economics, and data science. He applies empirical macro-finance approaches alongside advanced machine learning and text analysis techniques to explore how narratives, sentiment, and beliefs shape financial markets, credit cycles, and financial crises. His work has appeared in leading peer-reviewed journals, including The Scandinavian Journal of Economics, Journal of Financial Stability, and Quantitative Finance.
